transporting chickens to the butcher

I have to take 6 roos to be processed (an hour away) on Wednesday. I do not have a chicken crate available but I do have a large dog crate -- will that work? Is there anything else that might work better?

That should work fine.

i've used a large dog crate for some huge turkeys...
you could also use-
a box
a rubbermaid bin
a rabbit cage
cat carrier
whatever you have that will keep them contained

put bedding down so they stay clean your processor will appreciate it.

Thanks for the help...I'm not sure how much room they should have to move around (I'm assuming not much) and I'm supposing that it would be better if they can't be climbing around all over each other (so shorter would be better than taller). I'm still trying to figure out what we have around the house that will work best...the dog crate is definitely an option. It's just kinda big, is all.

The dog crate should be fine, and I second the bedding point. Cleanliness, and the fact that a dog crate will probably have a bottom on it that they would slip all over on. Bedding will help.
