Neighbors... UGHHH...

My nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away and that is too close... don't get me wrong, I have great neighbors, wonderful in fact... it's just as I get older the more of a hermit I become... next house will be off the grid!

One day is reasonable to wait to talk face to face to his dad... but depending how that goes I would sure get a report/paper trail started with the law.
So glad that you didn't lose any babies or moms for that matter!

hrump!! REALLY!!!! I moved to a little, rural town of 200 (maybe) ten years ago. It STILL isn't far enough out. Nobody lets their dogs molest anybody else. Everybody respects everybody else. Gee whiz--a little niceness to your neighbors goes a long way--stupid jerk should've apologized to you.
Call the cops.

I must be the neighbor from hellz. I warn once and try to scare the dog off, the next time I see the dog in my yard, I shoot it. I am not going to let it get close enough to one of my birds to kill it if I can help it. And an unfriendly dog that I cannot catch or one that is aggressive to me...it gets shot before the warning is issued.

I mean really...it is my property, my birds and your dog should be on your property. I keep mine on my property.

Wish I would have been there Cyn, I could have tossed the stupid boy off the deck for you. LOL Or dragged him by his hair over to a broody pen and shoved his head in her nest so she could give him the what for.

I've had past experiences with dogs.I was raising Game birds at the time and had quite a few very expensive birds.On several occasions we had neighboring dogs venture in after them,followed by many phone calls to the Sheriff's dept and Animal Control( who I actually trained horses for). Person was warned numerous times.On Thanksgiving one of the neighbor's pack of mutts came through and killed more than $5,000 worth of my birds.I went to their house trying to warn them the dogs had been to my house several times already that daybut no one would c ome outside..So when they returned I shot 3 of them.2 were still in the cages with my birds knawing on them.Once i did this I called the S.O. and had a deputy come out and witness the damage and one of the dogs still in the cage eating my bird.I took pictures of everything and I put all my birds in plastic and in the game freezer.Well,the woman also called the police after me to report me shooting her dogs,and the same deputy went over there to get her report.She said that it was illegal and that she was gonna sue me.The deputy told her good luck on that one because he had seen the damages,I had pictures and the bird evidence and that she was in the wrong for her dogs being out of the fence uncontrolled.That I was protected by livestock laws and that it would be in her best interest not to press it.Well the next day she calls me going off the hook ranting and raving how she couldn't take her dog to the vet because it was Thanksgiving and all of them were closed.I informed her she could have taken the dog to the Emg clinic 20 mins down the road or she could have called any vet in town,they would have just charged an emg visit charge.I worked in one of the clinics for 10 yrs and was well aware of all dr's services and hours.I also ran a pitbull rescue and worked with the S.O. and Animal Control on many different types of domestic animal and livestock cases. You have everything in your favor.Leash laws and Livestock protection ordinances. Call the S.O. and tell them you would just like to make a report.That way it is documented for future reference. Contact the dad,let him know the situation and the verbal actions of the son and see how he handles it.Next step...Shoot the freakin dog,call the cops and make sure to have a chicken feather in his mouth.

No one wants to go to war, and that is not our intention-we have gotten along fine with this neighbor-but we have the right to the enjoyment of our property; loose dogs and threats of violence really mess with that. DH is going to approach the dad, let him know what happened, what the sheriff said, etc. The actions of the son are more disturbing to me than the stupid dog, considering the threat to bring a weapon onto my property. I realize first hand how a child can shock and appall you and he may be angry at the son, or just angry that at us, that we have brought yet another issue with said son to his attention and he'll have to deal with it. Hard to know how someone will react. He wasn't responsible for the problem today, his kid was, but it really doesn't matter-the situation is the same.

This dog was out of control off his property, barking at us and looking like he would bite if we approached him. For those who say grab the collar and take him home, that would be the dumbest move on the planet and no sane person would do that with the fear the dog was showing. That is why we closed the gate to trap him and called his owner to come pick him up. If the dog gets back into the fenced area somehow and he is harassing my birds, there will be pictures taken of the deceased dog for evidence and we will call the sheriff or animal control or whoever is supposed to be responsible for dealing with it, or depending on what happens tomorrow, dispose of the carcass. Hopefully, the kid will be sent back to his mother when he recovers from his truck accident and dear old dad will make him stay there. We really hate to cause more stress for this man, but more than that, we don't want one of our chickens killed or mutilated by a dog that shouldn't be anywhere near here in the first place. So, it has to be dealt with.

Ladyhawk, Panda would be scarier than Nora for that little maneuver. You can see the insanity in her eyes! LOL

No, I do not want war, as in WWIII! That is the last thing I need or want in anyone or anybody.

From my uncle who lives in WV, hillybilly war would be resulted in liquor and fistfights, all mouthy and full of hot air. Guns and knives are prohibited.

What ever happend to the good old days when you could call the sheriff and he would go talk to the 'offender' with a common sense kind of talk. You know, like "now (insert name of neighbor kid jerk), you know that your dad's neighbors have chickens and they're right taken with 'em. And you know that worthless dog of yours 'll get them chickens if he gits a chance so you keep 'em tied up till you can git on back to your momma's house with 'im. You understand me, son? Now I don't want to have to come back out here again..."

That's probably all it would take. What ever happened to lawmen like that?
