Trapped skunk

Just for future reference, there is no need to kill them. Take an old shower curtain and throw it over the trap. Take them to a spot you want to release them and lift the door. The skunk will run out and you can back away.

Or simply contact a wildlife rehabber or wildlife removal service to take it somewhere else.

In Michigan, skunks and many other critters can only be released on your own property, or on private land, with owner permission, in the same county. And even those options are discouraged!
Wildlife rehabbers aren't taking skunks, and the removal folks don't relocate any other way either.
Just don't trap if you won't shoot!
And the trash compactor, while alive? Awful!!!

I use a sheet too. Every one I've shot has released, either before, or after. I have enough property that I drive back to a corner, shoot it in the trap, and leave it to mellow out for a few hours. Sometimes I think I'm a little hard of smelling, which in this case is a blessing.
