I just got 4 baby chicks, not exactly sure of the age. My daughter came to me with a chick squished in her hand and put it in front of us. It just laid limp in the ground like it was dead. My husband lifted it gently with both hands and lightly blew in his face to see if it’ll come to. I quickly gave it Arnica Montana 1M (homeopathic medicine) for trauma and internal injuries. It revived in a few minutes. We put it in with the other 3 chicks and it started to eat. Now when they were sleeping I kept checking in to see how it was doing, and the other 3 chicks stay separate from the chick that was hurt. The 3 chicks are in a corner together and the one that was hurt is alone. Why are they separating each other from that chick? Do they sense somethings wrong with it or that it might die? What are the signs that it won’t make it?

Chickens don’t like sick or injured chickens because they attract predators. I would be vigilant and make sure they don’t start pecking at her next.

Do you have it near the heat lamp in your brooder? Use a thermometer on the floor, and make sure the chick stays warm, in a spot at about 90 degrees. If it acts too warm by lifting it’s wings away or panting, or having pasty butt, lower the heat or move her away. Dip her beak into water and feed her some watery feed. If the others start coming around and pecking her, build a little fence around her. Hopefully, she did not suffer internal injuries and will recover. Is she moving her wings and legs? Let us know how she does.

She’s not having any trouble eating or drinking, she joins the others and eats a lot. She’s stretching and running around. She just sleeps a lot more now it seems. She is the smallest one out of all of them so I felt bad that it happened to her. She seems like she’s doing fine now, I’m a bit shocked because we both saw her laying limp and like she was dead.
