We had a bear break into our coop last week and snatched 4 of our girls. The 3 remaining chickens are/were at POL. Needless to say, no eggs since the incident. In addtion, Tuesday we added 4 new chickens about a month younger so more drama. So, how long do you think it will take them to get back to the routine and start laying again?

The bear will be back. Are you beefing up the coop/run? You need to run electric wiring around their area. But for now, if at all possible , do you have a secure building you can house them in. A garage, basement, something else. Then maybe he will look for easier pickings. They have an awful lot going on in their lives, I wouldn't expect them to see secure and lay eggs for sometime. Maybe
someone with more experience will come again and provide better answers.

Yes, we made the major repairs, boarded up, reinforced hardware cloth, hot wire, milk jug with chlorine tabs screwed on, red lights - you name it, we did it. Our local game warden doesn't think the bear will be back since he didn't come back right away and they are getting ready for hibernation.
