Traveling with Chickens?!

Hi! I'm currently in transit from Wyoming to South Dakota to visit family - with two of my chickens. One requires medication at the moment, so I decided to take her with me, and I brought another one for company. They're in an open dog crate with shavings and food and water and all that, but they keep stretching their necks and doing the mouth open thing, like a yawn or when they have something stuck in their throat. Is this their ears bothering them, from changes in altitude...? I'm sort of paranoid about the stress. They're not really eating or drinking, just laying down and seemingly trying to pop their ears. Any advice/confirmation?

Not sure if altitude does to chicken ears what it does to ours.
The stretching of the neck with mouth open is usually an adjustment of the crop.
Are their crops full? Might be the stress of traveling, chickens don't like change.
Hopefully they settle down once you reach your destination and eat, drink, poop.
What is the medication for?

Eye drops and metacam for pain. She tore her inner eyelid and had part of it removed.
