We will be traveling out of town for Easter and are planning to take our 3 chicks with us. Our chicks are approx 3 weeks old. The trip will take us about 4 1/2 hours. Once we get there we will set up thier brooder (heat light, food, water, etc.). We plan to take our 3 chicks in a cat carrier. We will stop frequently for water and food breaks. What is the best way to keep them warm and will they be alright? Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

You could get a converter plug for your cigarette lighter in your car and run a heating pad or something in the crate with them.

I use the one-time use handwarmers. When I send baby chicks home that I sell locally, I always put a handwarmer, at one end, plus shredded paper. The chicks are always toasty warm but can go to the "cool" end if they get too hot.

each handwarmer last about 8 hrs...

I don't know how big the cat carrier is but it might be too big to be cozy enough. Maybe use a smaller cardboard box. ... would keep a more even temperature. I wouldn't worry about ventilation. Plenty of 02... and I am sure you will be opening once in awhile to check on them.

...just a thought
