Hi Everyone and thanks for reading this,
I have recently purchased a treadle feeder - I am pleased as punch with it … however I seem to be getting dust in the Feed Trough which I am having trouble scooping out.
Does anyone else have this problem ?
Does anyone know how to resolve it ?
I’m sure I saw some sort of fancy tray type thing with holes it which lifted the pellets and enabled the removal of the dust but I just can’t find it. If I could find it I could persuade hubby to make me one I am sure.
Anyone any suggestions or advice ?
At the moment I am using a teeny tiny plastic plant pot to scoop out the feed with the dust, the I shake the mix and put the feed back and throw the dust. ‘Taint easy :he

I have 2 treadle feeders. A Grandpa's Feeder and a Rent A Coop feeder. When they get low on food and are mostly just dust, I turn the feeder upside down and shake it to dump it out. I also step on the step and blow it out with a lawn blower. Then wipe down to clean.

What brand of feeder do you have? Early on we left small gaps thinking that the dust would somewhat shake out but eventually added a small rectangular brace with an angled end to close the gaps and make the feeder stronger.

Eventually Howard E. suggested a french cleat system as we were already supplying a 2 x 4 mounting block. We wound up using a metal french cleat, lighter for shipping, more costly because we had been using scrap 2 x 4 rails from 12' long countertop material pallets, but it also closed off a gap under the lid that some customers complained about. The cleat system allows you to just pick up the feeder and dump the contents for cleaning. Once dumped you can winnow the dust out like they used to do grain or use your shop back to blow the dust away.

I have a copele 30kg, I’m really pleased with it but the dust seems to be an issue.
I can empty it when it’s empty as My Three Chicks suggested but I have to say that it is heavy so an alternative idea would probably suit me better.
If you have pictures ?
