My son just called saying he is going to bring some crickets for the chickens. He has a friend that owns a bait store and when he has to many old crickets he sends them to me as treats for the chickens. Watching the chickens run around a box of crickets is something to see. We set the box in the run closed, but the chickens can hear them. We tie a string to the lid so we can remove it from outside the run. When the lid comes off the fun starts. The chickens dive in and the crickets try to get away. Each box holds thousands of crickets, but before it is over only a few hundred have made it to safety for the day. By tomorrow you won't be able to find a cricket in the run. That should give the compost pile worms a break for the day.
