Treating Botulism? **UPDATED*RIP Spike

OK,

Lucy had a bad day yesterday as well. maybe they just have good days and bad trying to fight their way back. however, the nodule on her neck is now a watery feeling mass along a third of her neck-maybe a tumor or staff infection from injury by getting trampled on by the others before i took her out of the coop last week. so her situation may be more complicated than what i can help her with.

if you think Spikes is botulism and not cured yet-i did read on a university study to give penicillin. fyi, Alan told me to feed hand rearing caged bird formula (mixed up very watery) gradually mixing in more each day to what i have been feeding since Lucy was so thin. (she was eating only baby food applesauce.)

if you suspect trauma, his link says give vitamin e to help absorp selenium. careful not to give too much selenium. (amount is on that link.)

hope it was just an off day for Spike.

Hi- spike made it through the nite, starting him on tetracyline, apparantly he has developed a respritory infection- on top of his other problems. he seems to be breathing easier- what is the link you mentioned?

as for your little one, if it is a staff infection, could an antibiotic help?

Just lost my little silkie, Spike- he was such a fighter, but the paralysis combined with a respiratory infection was just too much for him- dang! poor little puddin is lost without Spike.

Thankyou- as in other rescues i remind myself he knew he was loved- sigh

I have a number of FREE RANGE Pekin Duck that I have hatched using a Muscovy as a Surrogate Nest sitter.
I have lost a number of near mature Pekin to botulism.
I have learned to recognize the early signs...
Not swimming with the group
Unable to get out of the water on the lake's embankment
Unable to walk when getting out of the water from the sandbar
Walking as if injured and sitting after getting out of the water

After losing 3 Pekin to botulism
I have now SUCCESSFULLY Nurtured 2 of my Pekin Back to health.

My Remedy:

"BURNED" BLACK TOAST - For the Charcoal effect
1 Oz. Apple Cider Vinegar
Blender - Add water until not yet liquid (Slushy) but not paste

Using a child medicine dropper, not ear dropper
1 FULL dropper immediately - Make sure it all goes down
Continue to hydrate every 2 hours

36 hour later My Birds were responsive and eating grain again.
I did catch it before full paralysis

Glenda Heywood replied: well have to give it to you: you have the patience of Job.
I guess to each his own on trying to stabalize the bird: I doubt you will ever get it
to be normal but it is your love of the bird that matters.
