Treating for Mites on Broody with Pipping Eggs

I've been looking through the old posts and I know this gets asked a lot, but I just want to be sure on what I should do. I really don't want to harm the chicks that are hatching.

The eggs have started pipping today and I just saw the mites today. Ida is in good feather except for a couple spots on her head that I assumed the roos had pulled feathers out of when they mounted her and the stupid little buggars and crawling around her face and head.

At this point can I sevin dust her or should I wait until everyone hatches and I can move them, change bedding, and dust everybody and everything?

I have food grade DE, but the general consensus seems to be negative regarding it's use as an 'insecticide' per-sae.

I just posted about this same thing: last thursday I noticed insects in the coop, on the loft where they roost. My broodies were due to hatch the next day.

Friday I took off work and emptied the coop, removed bedding (working around the nest box with broodies!). I heard peeping!!! - I used permethrin (sp?) poultry dust all over the floor and lower walls, dusted all the furniture laying out in the sun. Replaced the bedding and gave everyone a drop on Ivermec pour on...

Sunday the new moms took the babies out onto the fresh floor and quickly snatched the infested box and surrounding material and treated it.

So far, so good....

DE doesn't work.... and the situation is too critical to waste time waiting ....
