Treating the chicken run?

That’s fine, but you can pile up the shavings in a well-drained area and allow them to slowly cold-compost with the chicken manure rather than unnecessarily putting it all into the air. If you don’t garden, others would probably be willing to take advantage of the riches your birds produce. Put a card up in the grocery store, hardware store, etc. I know gardeners who would be delighted to pick up your freshly removed litter and compost it themselves.

I do compost into my garden as well, but I like to burn because I selfishly love bonfires. Pine bedding makes a great starter for a bonfire.

I like that set up. Where did you buy those angled bars from and how are they connected to the posts?
It's all DIY and details are on my Coop Page.

Wood chips not only fill in those spots
But the birds are always digging new holes and rearranging the chips...I spread the scratch on the high spots :D

Bonfires are great fun, imo. We’re surrounded by national forest, so the only bonfires for us, happen in deep snow & usually bitter cold (with a permit) for the purpose of getting rid of slash and fallen branches, trees, etc. :hit Not exactly marshmallow weather.
