You can use hydrated lime, it's the strongest, I think. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure. Pulverized limestone is less likely to have the properties you want, but it will also change the pH of the ground. Yep, throw in that seed, too. Hopefully, it will turn into grass before they eat it all, LOL. I've also been guilty of dumping my wood ash in the soil (not charcoal ash). I think it does the same thing as the lime? Not sure on that.
