i just want some opinions. Ophelia, my 3 year old blue australorp has a respiratory infection. do not know if it is viral or bacterial yet. she just had a culture today, but her droppings have some blood in the urates this week. Cannot send in a sample for fecal for 3 days and then wont have results for 2 days after that. Is there harm in treating for coccidia right now? by the time the treatment is done, the results will be in 2 days later. I'll attach a picture of her droppings. I use endocox because when the younger ones had coccidia, corid did not work, but endocox did. 3 day treatment in their water. thank you for your opinions.

If she's currently not on any other medication, then it should be fine to use the Endocox (Toltrazuril).

Is she having any reproductive difficulties?

Getting a fecal float is a good idea, you're having them check for worms too right?

so.... this is what happened last night. she has all of a sudden had egg problems along with the respiratory symptoms. she was on baytril, but i stopped it because she wasnt improving after 4 days. History of her recent egg laying 4/8 she laid rubber egg with a membrane followed right behind. she felt much better, no egg until 4/12 which was small, almost white and rough, same on 4/14. then i had some bloodwork done and her calcium and vitamins were low and blood slightly toxic. gave her 2 sub Q calcium gluconate per vet and vitamin a,e,d and b12 shot she felt better after that and then the blood in the urates started. she then laid an egg 4/23 that was pale, small. 4/24 same type of egg,but rough texture. then this morning 5/3 she laid this. she saw the vet yesterday for a culture and exam. nothing in her cloaca per exam. after the vet she would not stop drinking water and ate very little. she probably drank close to a pint and it would come out her vent the same way. after this morning eggshells she laid. she quite drinking excessively and ate food. although she doesnt want to go outside. usually she wants out. she has been sleeping inside where it is warmer due to her respiratory symptoms. after this long explanation, are these eggs from a respiratory virus or reproductive problem. if its reproductive, what can i do to help her? birth control? I have my girls for companions, not exactly for eggs, those go to my neighbors. Ophelia also has laid an egg almost every day since she started laying at 6 months old.

Lash egg material is from salpingitis, asp common reproductive infection. It can be caused by E.coli from the vent, mycoplasma from a respiratory disease, or infectious bronchitis virus which can affect the oviduct or kidneys. Worming might also be a good thing because of the blood, just in case it is worms and not coccidiosis. Here is some reading:

That's lash material? She is taking meloxicam

Yes, that's Lash Material/Egg, she has Salpingitis.

I'm sorry. The antibiotics may help for a period of time. The Calcium may help her expel more material, hard to know.

Likely her respiratory distress is due to the Salpingitis as is her drinking a lot. Inflammation in the body and/or lash material accumulating in the abdomen can slow the digestive system, add stress and pressure on the internal organs and create a lot of different symptoms.

in your opinion, if i get a superlorin, hormone implant to stop her egg production, she can improve? as of now her abdomen is flat. Maybe I can catch it early before its irreversible?

Antibiotics may or may not help. Hormone implants, which are outrageously expensive, can help to stop them from laying for 4-6 months, but they do wear off requiring more in the future. Many people have said vets in the US are not doing them because it is not approved. You might find a vet who would do one. I prefer to let nature take it’s course, and try to make them comfortable, hanging with their flock, and enjoying some food they like. Once they get picked on or seem to be suffering, they get put down.

As mentioned, the implant will stop egg production, it may help with the Salpingitis, but you may also want to have the Vet administer an antibiotic to help with any infection as well.
The Implants can last anywhere from 3-5months. I too have seen that in the U.S., folks are not finding a Vet willing to give the implant, there's liability and regulations involved I believe, so you may be limited on what type of care you can get.

I also let nature take its course. I will treat symptoms as they arise, offer supportive care and try to keep them comfortable while remaining with their flock until the time comes that they can no longer function, then I will put them down.
