Treatment of Lice on our ducks

I was given Ivermectin to treat my flock of chickens wh also run with ducks. The vet told me to treat the ducks as well. I did, but ran out before treating the last ones. The vet had worked out the doses. All the ducks we treated became really ill & died a few days later. Those untreated were all fine. Autopsy results showed their livers were bright green & they had died from toxicity.
You have to be extremely careful what products you use on ducks.
Welcome to BYC, so sorry you for your loss. :hugs How much ivermectin did you give them?

Treat ASAP with a proper spray of dust because DE *won't* treat lice or mites, and either can kill birds. Since lice live on birds you must treat the bird as sell as their coop.

You could also try ivermectin horse paste, injectable ivermectin, or pour on ivermectin. If you decide to use ivermectin let me know which one and I'll tell you the dose.

For the sprays or permethrin powders, how do you recommend applying them to ducks?

There is a product called Poultry Protector that is safe to use. Usually letting them bathe in warm will help too. If you haven't let the duckling play in the water your missing a lot of fun plus they love it. You always want to use warm water with ducklings because they can chill since they are only wearing down at this age. So after bath pat dry and put the duckling in a warm area to finish drying. This will also get the duckling to preen which will help to get the down waterproof.
