I'm not trying to be contrary, but my avian veterinarian has advised me to avoid the even smallest amount of dairy in my ducks' diets. She explained to me that since ducks aren't mammals and never nursed they never developed the enzymes to digest milk. She said that at best they are lactose intolerant and have digestive discomfort after eating dairy.
that's interesting thanks! Raw milk would most likely be better (maybe)I'm not trying to be contrary, but my avian veterinarian has advised me to avoid the even smallest amount of dairy in my ducks' diets. I'm not trying to offend anyone, I know several members here give their birds dairy and those birds haven't dropped dead. I just thought the original poster might like this information to help them make choices.
See I wouldn't have thought to give them dairy, seems an odd choice to me since birds don't nurse as a general rule but to each their own I suppose. Thanks for your input though, I really appreciate how helpful everyone has been!I'm not trying to be contrary, but my avian veterinarian has advised me to avoid the even smallest amount of dairy in my ducks' diets. I'll try meal worms again now that they're more comfortable being held, thanks for the advice!I used to give my duckling dried meal worms for a snack.
I'll try that when they're a bit bigger, thank you so much!My ducks loved cracked corn
