Treats For Chicks and Chickens

Do be advised that to many "tender" greens will result in impairing the hens ability to naturally absorb the needed calcium carbonate to produce strong egg shells. Chickens I am afraid are not much hoped for grand kids, to be spoiled but rather chickens are an entirely separate species from humans and what we like to see or do with our flock is not especially what is best for chickens.

As far as I'm concerned you can feed you chickens gunpowder with a chaser of Lucifer matches. They belong to you so do with them as you see best.

My hens have access to chicken feed 24/7.
I do give them a mixed bird seed twice daily scattered widely on straw in their pen.
They do get a weekly treat of a raw egg smashed on the ground sprinkled with bird seed.
They also get uncooked fruit, like a bruise apple was the latest, grapes past their prime, but not rotten.
A treat my girls really like is wet crumbles. Yep, don't tell em it's good for them.
I also give very wet feed to a sick chicken, gives them nutrition and water.

I don't give them cook food, processed people food or table scraps.
Leftover table scraps tossed into pen will attract Predators such as coons, possums, and crows. Just to name a few. GC
