I have 5 day old chicks that i ordered and was wondering if they are too young to give them mashed up fruit as a treat? or maybe mashed up hard boil egg? Or just stay away from treats till they are older. I have raised chicks before but never had any this young. Anything would be helpful.

Thanks

I am a newbie to chickens so I don't really know, but from reading some threads, some people start giving treats when they are around one week old. If you do so, you should give them some chick grits though.

for something to do (and these are my first chicks that are 8 days old),,I added some water to their chick starter, made a mash, omg, they are like a bunch of cannibals LOL.. I put it in a low dish, and they go crazy for it...I thought it might dissuade them from eating their dry chick starter, but I think I have a bunch of pigs because they are still eating that to.

I might try mixing some yogurt with the dry food, someone mentioned I could cut up a piece of apple, (no seeds ./ no skin) but I haven't tried that yet
