I'd be interested in seeing pictures of how you feed your chickens treats. At the moment I just throw treats into the coop but I'd like to see some ideas to make it more interesting and fun for them.

Sorry but I haven't figured out how to post pictures on BYC yet The funniest treat to me is when I put a head of cabbage on a hook hanging from a chain They peck at it until it is gone Meal worms, cracked corn, sun flower seed I just scatter in the run They also enjoy foraging in the weeds I pull from my garden

Little Richard, Nene, Lady Gaga, Henny Penny, Red, Punkin, Smallest (1 roo 3 hens 1 dog 2 cats) We are livin' the good life

First, go to your local sporting goods or bait shop and but a box of crickets. Next get your camera ready. Now throw the crickets in the run with the chickens and start filming. But you better be quick
or you will miss all the fun. My son would bring them over by the thousands when I free ranged at my old farm. I free ranged 500 chickens on 15 acres and he and my grand childern would take them and turn them lose on the property. At those times I believe even my neighbors chickens came for a visit. Not many got away the first day and none lassted more than two days. Now that I have downsized, we still do this once a month.

I have a big plastic bowl I put the treats in. It's very useful. When I let them out to free range, all I need to do to get them back in the coop is fill the bowl and hold it where they can see it. They come a-runnin'! I feel like the Pied Piper of Chickens as they all follow me straight back into the run!
