"Treats" that your birds don't like

a cheap box of corn pops/ Kix cereal from Aldi...my girls lose their minds over them lol
they do not like strawberry tops, but grapes are second fave-cut up of course:)
I've learned to not give non-protein treats very often. Lately I give eggs, tuna, seeds, mealworms.

I repurposed old tires for dust bathing areas in the run, fill with sandbox sand and the hens love them.

My sandbox is made of cinderblocks. They love it. My silly chickens won't touch a cabbage ball. It just hangs there and rots. They are about to get one of their favorite treats - fresh pumpkin. I understand it is a wormer also- so, win-win

My chickens go nuts on cooked rice, couscous and Greek yoghurt. I sometimes mix the rice with some chickenmuesli or mealworms. And then they are really fighting about it. They do like apples that have fallen of my apple tree. As well as strawberries ( they will eat them all before I can harvest them :barnie) , all kinds of melons, tomatoes, grapes and pre-cooked corncobs. On the other hand; bell peppers they refuse to eat. I once planted young kale plants in my garden. When I walked in to get my camera to make a picture of that they just ate them all in a heartbeat ...

These items have already been mentioned...but bread is the favorite of my girls. I'm thankful because when one decides to fly into the dog's yard instead of their own, bread is what gets them over into their own side again.

They also love bananas (especially when my toddler grandson is the one feeding it to them), watermelon, cucumbers, cooked spaghetti noodles (plain), berries, and oatmeal. They do NOT like cabbage (I tried the cabbage on a string for them to play with). Have fun!

Treats my birds do NOT like? Dried Mealworms. I can't figure this one out. Everyone else's birds seem to love dried mealworms. Mine take a peck at them and turn their beaks up. My australorp, Thyme, also does not like shelled sunflower seeds. SUNFLOWER SEEDS! What chicken in their right mind does not love sunflower seeds? Especially when its just the delicious seed, with no pesky shell to get in the way of that pure seed flavor.

Mine don't like grapes, the big goofs! Even cut up. Not crazy about spinach, cooked or raw. Cucumber peels, gag! Potatoes or potato peels, likewise, ick..

But they'll eat banana peels after they turn black, yum yum! Weirdos....

They like spaghetti, with red sauce, thank you, but we don't often have much to share as we like it pretty well ourselves. Hmm. They like lettuce. But not beans. Or onions. Or celery. So they just don't get that stuff any more. It goes in the freezer till trash day.

They love bread of any kind, but their favorite is my homemade whole wheat multi-grain. It causes hilarious food fights! But basically they get very little people food any more. They might get a watermelon rind if we have one. Those are fun! And corn on the cob after we've finished grinding on it! They love those.

I give my girls and dudes kitchen scraps from meal making daily. Everything is in those buckets except egg shells and anything meat. I season our meat pretty heavily so even if it's crispy bacon bites from the corners of the pan it won't go to them.
Pretty much all meat scraps go to my dogs and cats. They love me for that.
Egg shells go into the garden.
I also give the flock (sparingly) yard dock and sorgum as I find it on property, I've got a clip hanging by some rope so I can hang this kind of stuff up for some boredom breaking. I don't like to give them bagged bugs because they find plenty on their own, and it's too expensive a treat for me. Man they love bugs. Oh and they eat mice, snakes, and the odd baby rabbit.
No joke.
Out in the field we have all kinds of stuff, they've come across different animal nests in the grass and if there babies are small enough it's go time. Between them catching babies and cats taking down adults life out here has become pretty awesome. I've a few guineas I got for tick control but without the varmints around the tick population was down hard this year. Less snakes too without as many mice. I love my animals they make life MUCH easier.

My birds eat almost anything. The favorites seem to be bread, tomatoes, oats, watermelon, strawberries (any kind of berries actually), etc... The ones they didn’t like were carrots and sour things. I’ve never tried to give them fish or other animal food.
