Treats

Should I feed them more protein? If so, any suggestions?
Layer feed is meant to be sole ration.
I like to use a 20% Flock Raiser and have Oyster Shell available for the active layers.
Then I can give some daily scratch grains too.

Live mealworms are great treats. My chicks love shredded zucchini bits. They also seem to like Nyjer black thistle seed.

It's funny to me that the entire flock, even a flock of mixed breeds, seems to unanimously decide what they like and don't like. Either they ALL like watermelon, or they ALL hate it. Seems to be the case with my five anyway. Mine all go bonkers for sunflower seeds, watermelon, and clover. Exceptions: I do have just one that likes blueberries, and another that ate a bunch of toxic weeds with no hesitation. (Oops.)

My 5 chickens were eating almost everything I brought out but as they got older there developing there own likes and dislike. Nowadays, it's watermelons, sunflower seeds, cashew nuts, mealworms, romaine lettuce, and tomato plant leaves. I use to give them canned salmon, gross.., but they don't care for it anymore.
