New to chickens, coop and run almost done. I'm curious on what treats people had success with in getting their flock back in their run after free ranging.
 
The trick is to teach them that calling them means you have treats. Use the same call each time as you give a treat, then move away and give some treats, and so forth. Once they get accustomed to your giving treats, it won't really matter to them what it is. It's probably simplest to start out with scratch feed. They love the corn in it, and it's inexpensive and available. I give mine BOSS (black oil sunflower seed) rather than scratch because it's more nutritious and they love it as well. Many people feed mealworms, also excellent nutrition, and animal based, to boot.
