Trendy chickens

My MIL showed up on my doorstep with 2 japanese bantum roos because she thought they were cute.

Now I'm hooked....I love them, can't imagine not having chickens around. I want to get some silkies or crested polish and get my kids into showing them in 4-H.

Sometimes trends are the predecessors to social change. This could be a great thing.

I may be new, but I am just doing what I have always done, but now I am including chickens in my basket of cuckoo crazy.

In another time, us yuppie chicken raisers would have been called ***GASP**** Hippies.

Yes! Yuppie-hippies! It's perfect. I hope it sticks too, but I guess things always come and go to some extent. For my girls, who free range and don't even have to be in a coop, it is so easy I can't imagine not doing it. They are easier then the vegetable garden by far! Throw out some food occasionally -> get eggs all the time. But I can imagine if I had a coop to clean, and had to feed/water daily, and find someone to take care of them while I was on vacation, I might not think the same.

I was rather dismayed to find out that chickens were trendy just when I decided to start with them XD

But I'd have had them years ago if I'd have just up and done it instead of waiting for my folks to say, sure, let's go. They never did say it, I just finally decided to do it!
