if something happened to my Ruben or Gee-joe..

I know it will happen someday, but I hope not too soon..

i bet you just saved many birds lives with this thread!...

Don't know if I would have needed it soon, but thank you for the heads up, you saved me and my birds from learning the hard way.

So sorry about Hawkeye, he must have been very special. Thank you from all of us!

He was very, very special. I have three of his wonderful sons and two of his daughters and a granchild or two. He was my friend and an amazing benelevolent ruler and protector of my girls. His spurs are hard to fill.

Thank you Speckled. I was not aware of this danger until a few months ago. I ALWAYS check all the stuff I get for the chicken aid kit for the pain relief chemicals. WOW, I had no idea that it acted this quickly. I am so very sorry you lost your bird to such a thing, but am glad you have the diligence to keep this message alive.

I dread the day my roo slips away. I is amazing how they can attach themselves to your heart. I lost a silver polish that I raised from a chick. His absence is felt every time I go and put the flock up for the night. He always roosted next to his hen in one particular place.

I am so sorry for your loss. That stinks. I have fallen in love with a polish arucana mix I got this fall. I never thought I would find another great rooster!

I wonder if this is a humane way to euthanize? I do not know what this product does but I know if we have to put one down some of us would love an easy out...

Now, it may not immediately kill a bird every time. Could depend on where applied, how much is applied, if the skin is broken, etc. The risk is not worth it. dhunicorn, I believe, has something about this on her very informative, encyclopedic website.

This wound ointment is not made for birds, though there is no label warning on it about any risk to them. Could be the combination of the benzocaine and aromatics is what is most dangerous, but as I said, it is definitely not worth the risk of losing a beloved bird.

Cyn, yeah that and applying it to tissue with such amazing bloodflow probably didn't help. I am still sorry you lost him.

I've been treating a turkey for a bad dog bite wound and using one of the spray topicals that coats and doesn't have any pain killer in it - Blue Lotion. It's been really useful.

I might have used something with Caines in it if it weren't for your posts.

I know it still hurts to talk about.

Hugs
