I have a rooster that just doesn't fight with the other roos, so his spurs are close to two inches long. He free ranges and doesn't use them to fight or go after people, so I have left them. My other boys spar through the fence, and end up breaking theirs and they stay short.
But I'm going to be putting some hens with him in the next few days and don't want him to hurt the hens with those spurs. Should I trim them? He is very protective of all the babies, (even the teenage boys) so I depend on him to take care of any dangers.
