Trimming around vent...how do I?

Sorry, but I never cut a feather before....Is there a possibility of trimming them too close? Do feathers bleed if you cut them too close?

One I want to trim to help with mating, another I need to trim because the poop drops and lands on the fluff there and builds up.

Does anyone have any tips for me on trimming for efficient mating?
These are large fowl cochins.

don't cut the feather shaft..

Yep... just trim the fuzz.

And pick a very sharp pair of scissors so you don't pull the feathers.
