I am an over thinker/analyzer.
So bare with me on this question.

How far apart did those who did an unburied skirt around your chicken yard space the landscape staples apart from one another?

I don’t want to space them so far apart that would allow any slack that a critter can squeeze and dig under but I don’t want to place them so close to the next one that it’s unnecessary and I end up having to buy and use more landscaping staples than actually needed.
Thanks!

I zigzagged mine, so basically I spaced them about 12" apart on the outside edge, and then also did a row a couple inches from the run fence spaced 12" apart, but offset from outside by about 6". Does the job getting it to lay flat from just under the run fenceline to the edge.

Might depend on how flat the apron is laying, what kind of ground it's on, and how far out it goes from run/coop wall.
Ideally apron is well attached to run/coop wall, goes out 12-18", and grass can grow up thru it.
Pred will dig at base of wall, not outer edge of apron(unless edge of apron is sticking up like a welcome mat.)
Can you post some pics of the situation?

I’ll be securing it to the 2x4s that’s at the base of the run (positioned wide side out) with screws and washers, I’m using 24in hw cloth so it will go up the width of the 2x4 (about 4in)and extend out laying flat on the ground about 20in and secured with 12in heavy duty staples into the ground. The area around the coop will go up the side of the coop about 6-8in due to its construction and the base being slightly higher up on 3x4’s and will also be secured to the ground with the same 13in staples. I’ll most likely NOT bury it but keep it parallel with the ground and let the grass grow over it. My soil is a mix of clay, down deeper about 6in in some spots and regular brown soil for the majority of its consistency. It’s good gardening soil if that helps. My chicken area is under a huge oak tree so there are quit a few big roots. I had to cut my way through them when I was burying my PT 8ft landscape timbers I used as fence post. Which is the main reason I’m not going to bury the apron.

With roots, just pin around them best you can. It's not perfect but it can't be helped if they're in the way.
