trouble mating rooster and hen

I recently got a new rooster for my hen Saturday and when he would try to mate with her she would run. So after that I put them in a small cage together for a 2 days to get them used to each other and now it seems like he doesn't want to mate with her but whenever he does she seems to run a little and another problem is they will not sleep together when they roost. What could be the problem

They are still in the courtship phase and are just getting to know one another. They will work it out. The next time you get new birds, it would be a good idea to quarantine before introducing them to the flock.

I have my old rooster in a different cage in where he can't see them is that okay. My other rooster is just too old to mate

They might need to get used to each other. Every now and then, one of my hens will resist the rooster and scamper away. I don't know why. I suppose that is just the nature of chickens. He has 9 hens, generally all are receptive. I don't watch them all the time, so I don't see the mating behavior often.

I would give them some time.
