Just wanted to thank you wonderful people for all your advice... it turned out that I had 3 male quail (how did I not know this! It was glaringly obvious, now that I know -haha) who were super excited about one particular female. They have now been re-homed, and I have 4 lovely females in total ( thinking, more to come 
) They are the best girls and lay one to two eggs a day (possibly I'm over feeding them!). Their eggs are pretty large too, well, for quail. They all seem to lay together, or have their little nests depending on the weather. They love their home and it's such a joy to see them pecking around, dustbathing and generally happy. Here's some pics of Nibbles, Queenie, Cinnamon and Vanessa and their eggs - they are so pretty! Happy quail = happy eggs! Thanks heaps such a great forum
