I am using solway horizontal nipple waterers. I ordered them from [email protected] via ebay. My order confirmation came back from [email protected].
I really like how the nipples worked with my 5 gallon bucket, and with the water jug (both softer plastic). Just had a bit of issues with them biting into pvc. They have a very unique thread designed to self tap into soft plastic - but the pvc was just a bit to tough for it. I think the 1/2x1/8 fpt T is the easy fix. Tapping the pipe directly will probably work too - but honestly, drilling holes in a pipe and keeping them inline is a lot more frustrating that using T's anyway (you have to hot glue 2 pipes together, then they can not roll as you use a drill press and guide to align the holes... - T's are easier).
Solway says they are good from 10 days outward (I have done it sooner, but that is probably not the best idea all the time. rich386 posts here and will give advice on usage from time to time. I think a nipple per 10 birds or so - but most do more (like my 4 nipples for 12 yard birds). That said, my brooder can probably handle 150 birds - so I am just a little short of that with 13 nipples.
