OMG tonight while the hubs was working on the new chicken coop and nest boxes I decided to put a paper box with some Hay in with my sweet little Coturnix quail couple "Curt and Courtney Cobain" well Curt was the first one in the box he checked it out and fluffed it up and once it was cleared as safe he called Courtney over to get in it..... she hopped in and fluffed up and sat down and fell asleep almost immediatly..... Curt was SUCH a gentleman... he plopped down in the floor of the cage (which is wire and I am sure its not at all comfy). my hubs and I looked at each other and I was like "AWE how sweet." hubs said "what a gentleman I woulda kept the comfy bed." I said to him "Naw, youda given it up. I know you to well." so we stood there watching this quail couple for a second. My husband says I should make some small nest boxes for them too huh....(I said to myself HUH-WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!!!!!) I said "if you want to, that would be really nice." then hubs says " Curt needs a bed!" I said "I could put some hay in there for him to lay on" hubs says "do it cause that doesnt look comfy at all...." So Curt is still sleeping on the floor I open the cage and put some hay in the corner he hops up (he was snoozing the whole time I put the hay in there) runs to the pile of hay and litterally PLOPS down and falls RIGHT to sleep. my husband and I just loooked at each other and laughed...... I said "he totally reminds me of the DOG." he said "yeah he does!!! thats funny!" he said he likes their personalities too.....

I really LOVE the Coturnix quail... they are so cute and have the sweetest personalities!!!! Thank you Tori!!! you gave me your best quail couple!!!!

I REALLY LIKE Curt and Coutrney I am wondering if they just needed a nest box to start laying again? remember what we were talking about on the phone today?

Maybe, but I don't really know. Can't hurt to make them comfortable.

Mine are on shavings for the winter, and they lay anywhere they please. When they're on wire, they tend to lay their eggs in the sand-box.

So, maybe she's missing her shavings.

I will keep my fingers crossed!

My little quail lady, Oprah, loves her cigar box (nest box). She lays her eggs in it all the time. The other new layers haven't quite got the hang of the boxes but do enjoy getting in them.

Must see pictures of the happy little couple enjoying their little boxes!

I heard my male calling his hens over for boiled egg yolks last night for the first time it was so cute! I had never heard the noise before but the hens knew right away what it meant and they ran over one by one and took bites out of his beak
