I Believe this is false. On the contrary the Jersey Giant originated in New Jersey in the 1800's. It was the product of farmers breeding large roasting chickens. They didn't become standardized til 1947, with the whites. The JG is large and well=fleshed though it grows slowly .... BYP magazine.

This is why they are not nor were popular in the beginning. People wanted a quick maturing chicken and the JG was not it. They are also not good layers. By that I mean laying many eggs per annum.
