CWH it's good you have a goal! Is it a difficult one? Yes, yes it is. Is it reachable? Why yes it is. Just make sure you never let some of the negativity get to you. When I joined a few years ago I had quite a bit of negative comments from people on here. I had several people tell me that I should just leave the forum and my posts we're all just junk. Did I listen to them? Unfortunately, I did. I let them get the best of me and stopped posting for awhile. I still read all the threads but I lurked like many people on here do for many months. I was afraid of getting my head chewed off so I just kept all of my opinions to myself.
After a few months I got sick and tired of never stating my opinions on things. At that point I realized other people's opinion of me meant nothing to me. If anyone cares to go back to my original posts you will see I was far from a perfect member. I used poor grammar,Text Talk, as well as let many people on here disrespect me. Once I began to stand my ground I quickly began to gain the respect of many members. Though I still had plenty of opposition. However, as you can tell now that has not affected me in the least. If I had listened to them I wouldn't have made BYC Project Manager,BYC Friend, BYC Greeter, BYC Winner, and I defiantly wouldn't be the 4th all time poster in BYC history. Obviously post count does not matter but I can honestly say it feels amazing knowing I'm the 4th top poster of all time.
Though I must say there are cons of having so many posts. A lot of people on here assume having so many posts means you are extremely knowledgeable. I get several emails every week asking various questions regarding fowl. Also, many people on here assume with this many posts that you are part of the staff. I get several people PM me with questions only a moderator would be able to answer for them. I have to take the time to direct them to the nearest Moderator. Many people seem to have a problem with Minors being top posters. People often assume I am a middle aged man. When in reality I'm proud to be a emancipated female minor.
When you are highly visible in the forum you must watch what you say. If you are not 100 percent sure of what you are posting take a moment to think about it. You will always have plenty of people waiting to knock "Experts" and "Gurus" down a few pegs. Plus when it comes to serious subjects such as diseases and illnesses a wrong treatment suggestion can cause a fatal effect. When you have a lot of posts people tend to take your words to heart much quicker and don't always wait for other opinions
One of the newest complications I've been experiencing lately is what is you never know who is watching you. I've had several customers buying birds recognize me from posts made on the forum. While flattering it can be a bit overwhelming knowing they know so much about you without your consent. You defiantly have to be safe about information you display on here. Other forums can even watch you! I actually received a second offer today from another forum to join their staff because they had been watching my posts on here. While once again flattering it is a bit strange knowing anyone out there can be watching your posts.
That's my two cents on the subject. If you still want to be the top poster I say go for it! Just understand "With great power comes great responsibility". If it's something you really want to got for I hope to see you in the Top Poster ranks of all time eventually
