Waiting for chicks to hatch can be NERVE-WRACKING!!...
...especially when you have a broody hen (specifically my always-broody white Silkie hen, Isabel) who won't even let you peek at the babies while they hatch. That's why when I really want to see the chicks hatch, I usually put the eggs under Mystery (black Silkie hen) or Pumpkin (buff-blue Silkie hen), who are still strict brooders, but let you peek once in a while. Or most likely, if I REALLY, REALLY want to see the babies hatch, I put them under Caramel (Nankin hen), or Hugo (black Jersey Giant hen- yes, hen) who are the most loose brooders in my flock, and who easily let you see the chicks hatch and peek every five minutes. (And all of my in-between brooders are iffy, you never know what they will do and/or let you do.)

I will probably have to sit on my hands! I am so excited, and nervous! I hope that I've done everything right. I candled last night and I saw definite air sacs, I couldn't see them before for some reason, I think it was my flash light. I got a brighter one. I am thinking of letting my banty hen that just went broody hatch some. I have never had with a broody hen, and this is my first time hatching period!!!! But if I do let her, then I won't be able to see anything because she doesn't want you messing with her at all!

You're on the right track. Don't candle the eggs again, because every time you do, the rate of hatch will drop down a little, so it's better to leave them alone until they hatch. I've noticed better hatch rates when I let my broody hens hatch the eggs themselves, so maybe you should let your banty hatch them if you want a better outcome. I'm not an expert, but I notice better outcomes when I don't candle the eggs more than once and let my hens do the hatching. Good luck!

We DE'd the chickens and dogs this evening. Dust everywhere!

What age can you treat chicks for lice/mites with DE? Mine seem to be scratching alot now, but they are only about 2 weeks old.
