try to pick chickens for my flock

I live in New England, (very cold). We have a flock of Turkins right now. The problem is that have not given us one egg this whole winter. I need to have eggs for some of my customers. I am looking into getting some chickens that will be great layers no matter how cold the weather is. I do understand that they will not produce as much as they do in the summer. Now My question is which breed would you recommend for a good all season layer?

while i can't answer this one i do have a sugestion. if u use heat lamps or timer lights if u can as long as they have the 14+ hours of daylight everyday ur girls will lay through winter.

My Buff Orps, RIR, W. Leghorns, and Sex Links lay all winter long. We have lights in the coop that come on at 5am (to help extend daylight hours) and haven't had any trouble collecting about 2-3 doz. eggs per day. We have had LOTS of cold, ice, and snow - but it hasn't seemed to effect them much.

I second sex links. We have ISA browns and they lay very well all year. Also, Wyandottes lay well in cold weather.We have had them in the past. We don't use extra light so our hens lay with just natural light in winter but I do agree that more light will give you more eggs.

My BO & RIR have been laying all winter. Average 5 eggs a day from 7 pulets. additional light comes on at 5 AM

My Delaware hens finally hit full production as the temps dropped and the daylight dwindled. During the summer I rarely got more than 3 or 4 from them, now I'm getting at least 6 a day -- even though several have been molting at the same time.
