Trying really, really hard to keep my cool...

The crazy part is that those two infected puppies are still at the vet's, now in chainlink kennels next to other people's dogs. They told me they are no longer infectious; i'm not even taking my grown dogs in there for their shots, we'll go elsewhere. Two of them are due this month anyway.

I would definetly contact a lawyer!!! That is absouletly insane and unthinkable!! I hope your puppy and other dogs will be fine!!!

That is absolutely dispicable. If you really want more fuel to add to the fire you can take into account that it says clearly on the vaccine inserts that the vaccine should only be administered to healthy animals. Less than two weeks recovery from a rattlesnake bite does not qualify as a healthy animal.

I found out how to file a complaint with the state veterinary board. It states in their rules that facilities must provide "effective separation of known or suspected contagious animals".

I wonder how often they inspect premises.

I would have someone's head on a platter...that is beyond belief...I hope your pup recovers...someone brought me a parvo pup years ago and I bleached so much I practicaly burned the corneas in my eyes...I was frantic as I had other puppies at the time...

Start compiling all the data on paper. Have the dog treated at a different vet and then send the ex-vet the bill.

When I worked at a local vet(and probably the worst one in the area, honestly) we even knew to put even "questionable" dogs in ISO(isolation), this meant any and all dogs that came in from the animal control or dogs suspected of parvo.

You have a right to be upset. Keep at it, parvo treatment is expensive, but it is a survivable disease. I have known dogs who survived TWO attacks of it and survived into adulthood.

Please, please, please, make sure this vet pays for this and that you report them to the authorities, that is a HUGE breach in protocall.

She seemed perkier today. Yesterday she did not move all day, but we could not get hold of our regular/now ex vet. We called another who my husband knows well, and he advised us to be on the lookout for parvo symptoms. This morning she was quite playful, but still not eating, and a little shaky on her feet. She did start vomiting again right before I took her in. They gave her fluids and put her back on the antibiotics she had for the snakebite. She was tearing up the newspaper in her cage an barking, which is good.

My husband called the other vet this evening to ask him if he would take Maggie in, and give shots to our grown dogs. We're waiting to hear back from him, but i'd rather not be there if he goes in to collect Maggie from our now ex vet.

What a nightmare! I hope you do get his license revoked, or at least suspended! That is ridiculous. Also, since parvo is a virus the antibiotics wouldn't help a bit.

Are you sure he is actually a vet?!? He might be one of those guys we see on Dateline that has the fake diploma on the wall!

Please keep us updated. And I will be thinking of your puppy and older dogs!

I'm with everybody else.. Rip that jerk a new sense of reality.. Anybody that has ever encountered parvo knows that you treat it like the plague.. Total isolation of the dog in question, constant cleaning of any vomit or diahrea, and bleach bleach bleach.. It is a deadly disease in dogs and can cause severe dehydration and malnutrition.. The dog usually has to be put on an IV and intensive care and constant cleaning, which is why it can get so expensive to treat this disease.. You basically give the dog antibiotics and wait it out.. The fact that those idiots knowingly had very sick animals around other people's pets is immoral to say the least.. One thing about parvo though, it has a very distinct smell to the vomit and diahrea that you will learn to recognize..

I hope your puppy comes through this well and your older dogs immune systems can keep them from getting sick too..
