trying to add a window to my chicken coop but know nothing about tools

Ditto using the drill bit to make a small hole in each corner of the rectangle, so your blade can have a starting opening. The piece of plywood you end up with could serve as a door over that window once the hardware cloth (mounted on inside) is in place. Lightly sand down the edges, get the right type of hinge (hinges confuse me...;)), paint both sides of the wood piece, then attach like a door to close off your new window in the winter, if that is your intent.

Take this with a grain of salt since I am no construction expert, but if you drill a pilot hole with a drill in the corners it will give you a starting point. That's what I did and my coop hasn't fallen down... yet 😆
You "nailed" it!!! Pun intended.

A sawzall with a fine tooth blade, but I don't own a jigsaw. I imagine a jigsaw would work better
Jigsaw would be slower... but safer. Jig saws have a shorter stroke than a sawzall. I assume you would be cutting through something like T-11 siding??? 1/4 thickness would be the max for a jigsaw.
