After much research, especially here on this site, my fiance and I decided that bringing a few hens into our life would be a wonderful idea! We went out, found the best chicks for us and our family, and purchased four (2 Black Australorp & 2 Buffy Orpington). Well, I certainly should have done some more research on my City because I just found out that according to section 5-1, "farm animals" are not allowed in the city of Boca Raton.

I called zoning who informed me to call the city clerk. I called the city clerk and she informed me that in order to start the process, I can write a letter and address it to the city council or the mayor. I am 100% new to everything involved in this, including the chickens. However, we have already fallen in love with these girls and do not want to give up on them just yet! I am going to put in some work and write this letter and if needed, I will attend the city council meeting which will be the next step.

What I was hoping to get here is some advice. Has anyone on this site ever written to city council or the mayor to get the law for chickens changed? If so do you have any advice on some pointers that I should bring up? Thank you so much!

If you're going to tinkle in tall grass with the big wigs no what you're doing. Research your purpose, start a petition that others support you, give approx idea how much area you'll need, what is your purpose, such as is it recreation, commercial, etc. It's a start, just my opinion, good luck :thumbsup
