Trying to figure out the right number

This may be a little long. Just hang in there with me. 6 months ago I purchased 19 Buff Orpington hens and 3 roosters. We butchered some and now have 13 hens and 1 rooster. I've been doing some research in my area and have found that my Buffs and Ameraucanas could bring some good money in my area. At our monthly flea market RIR are going for $10 and yes, they are selling them. So I was thinking about ordering more Buffs and ordering some Ameraucanas. I'm just wondering how many of each because I'm getting an incubator in June-July and would like to start hatching out my own. Does anyone have any idea about how much to charge for Buffs or Ameraucanas? Also do Ameraucana eggs bring more money or should I charge the same as the brown eggs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It depends on the market.

Order 400 of each and you'll figure out real quick what the market is.

just joking... we had a feller on her who told of his boss in Mesa who ordered 400 Red Stars with no clue of what it was going to entail to take care of that many chickens.

Just do what you feel is feasable.

Where are you ordering these Ameraucana and buffs from? Quality has a lot to do with market value..

We're ordering from Meyer Hatchery. We have friends who have ordered from them before and not one chick died in all the times they've ordered.

I would start with no more than 100 birds just incase something went wrong then I am not deep in the hole

and if you sell them as 4 to 5 weeks old then $5 a bird will be good if they are in laying age then $10.
