I am trying to figure out which hens are laying. This weekend I got a second egg. I know my Cinnamon Queen is the darker egg, she has been the only one laying. I have a Rhode Island Red, Golden Wyandotte, and a Salmon Favorolle. I have seen all of them except my golden in the nesting box and recently the RIR and Favorolle started squaking more and if I clean out there roosting area near their nesting boxes those two go up there and make a bunch of noise. Here are the two eggs I have gotten.

Probably the Faverolle. They are known to lay pinkish eggs. Wyandottes also lay pinkish eggs, but if you have not seen nesting, it's probably not her. RIRs lay brown eggs, so it's not her.

I thought it might be her too. Will my RIR be the same color as my Cinnamon Queen?? They are 23 weeks now, I thought my RIR would be laying by now.

You could also check if you could fit two fingers in between the chicken's bones under their butt. If you could, they are either very very close to laying or laying...maybe do a little checkup?

They are so skittish, not sure how well that will work. My golden is the worst and my favorolle. I know my Cinnamon Queen is laying, I prolly could do this on my RIR.

Pluck them off the roost after dark to do the butt check. This is the most reliable method to see who is laying. If the bones are not far enough apart they simply are not laying, they physically can’t yet.
