Hi! I am seriously thinking of getting about three chickens for my backyard. I have three outdoor cats. I am in SE Georgia and would like information on best breeds for the heat and humidity as well as cheapest options for a safe chicken coop. Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

I would stay away from fluffy breeds like Orpington and Cochin. Breeds that do best in the south have large floppy combs (helps dissipate the heat) and smaller slim bodies. Leghorn, Easter eggers, Plymouth rocks, Australorp... Many more obscure Mediterranean breeds that I haven't tried. Lots of nice colorful breeds to choose from.
As far as a coop, build it for the most miserable days of summer. Open and airy with lots of shade.
