I think Blackdotte can probably give you a much better answer. If you'll notice, I passed on guessing hte genotype of the hen, particularly since you said they aren't quite like her.

I do know that recessive white is pretty thorough at preventing colour in the feathers as compared with dominant white, which is why I was willing to take a stab at him.

So, if I understand correctly, PERHAPs the Rooster is Heterozygous for Dominant white.

The Hen can be assumed to be heterozygous for Melanin (black).

So, what the "Chicken Calculator" told me to start with would "likely" be correct.

Example: 1/4 white roosters, 1/4 black roosters, 1/4 white hens, 1/4 black hens

Unlikely to have much, if any, variation. (Assumming the "heterozygous" alleles)...BUT, possible differences IF one of the parents IS HOMOZYGOUS for any unmentioned "allele" ???

I realize this is certainly an "over-simplification" of the idea.BUT, IS this the idea?

i FINALLY, am comprehending a little bit of what you fine folks have been so patiently TRYING to explain to me.

For this effort of yours, I will try to understand more and hopefully, when I do, try to be as helpful to others as YOU have been to me!

VERY NICE FOLKS!
