Trying to raise chicken's in northern Minnesota

Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! Wow! You have a lot going on!!!

Might I suggest changing the additional lighting to the mornings instead of the evenings? It might be stressful for them when the lights suddenly go out at night and it's pitch black, plus they might actually have hopped down off the roost, and then it gets suddenly dark and they can't see to get back up. Much better to have the light come on in the morning. :)
Thanks for the advice, I tried that and it only comes on at night the instructions said. It hasn't bothered them yet and has been on every evening for the past couple of months. It slowly dims and goes out giving them plenty of time to get up on the roost.

Oh! That's a pretty cool system that dims before going out. I don't see a problem with that. :)

Day length in northern latitudes can affect production but not in 9 month old birds. At that age, they will usually lay right through the first winter. Just don't expect anywhere near that in subsequent winters. It is best to start hoarding eggs in August and September to get you through the dearth of eggs that follow till they reboot around February.

Thank You for the great advice!

Thank You! It's a pretty nice day outside and a good wind to air out the coop. I put cardboard under the roost in the winter because of the cold poop freezes to a board and makes it very hard to wash off. I tack the cardboard to the wall with a staple gun to keep it from being moved, when it gets full of poop just give it a pull and it comes right off and I discard it outside side and replace it with another piece.
