trying to save a duck egg

ok thanks. is there anyway i could put the egg back into the nest without the mom rejecting?

U could try putting the egg back in the nest without making it look different while she’s not around I have backyard ducks and I don’t know if it would be Thebes same for the ducks you’re talking about but if you don’t want to do that you could try using a heating pad with a thermometer and turn it around 3-5 times a day and try and create humidity by getting a container and putting a wet sponge in it next to the egg on the heating pad, you could watch some YouTube videos or do some research on how to make this incubator it’s not totally effective but it worked for half my duck egg incubation till I could get my incubator

the egg fell out of the nest while i was checking the boxes. i left it to see if mom wanted would get it but after awile mom went back in the nest and didn’t seem to care about the egg on the ground so i brought it inside on some heat. i wouldn’t want to leave the egg out by the boxes because of potential predator attraction. i know well about taking wild birds/bird eggs is illegal. but i’m just wondering if there is a chance i can save it before throwing it away. the ducks that use our boxes live in a duck pond that has ducks that were relesed/ rehabilitated by people/ wild so it is hard to tell. sorry for upsetting some people. just trying to save a life

No one is upset. But its good for you to know that you won't be able to keep that bird after it hatches, and you wont be able to release it since you can't teach it much. Its really great you saved it.
When ducks incubate eggs, they lay what is called a clutch of eggs before they incubate. They lay around 10-15 eggs, thats a guess, all in the same spot, or until they think they have enough. Then, they will start to sit in the eggs and incubate them. Its possible that egg was part of a developing clutch, so that may be why she wasn't paying much attention to it.
Anyway, lets see how it develops. You can probably keep it, but it's likely you will get in trouble if you get caught with a wild duck egg.
