I just got 8 hens, about 4 inch's on height . I took care of father in laws chickens for a couple of years, under His supervision in my early 20"s. I'm 50 now just now a first time chicken owner. I could use all the help that I can get.

Is the dog kennel chain link? You'll need to line the lower portion with quarter-inch hardware cloth to keep predators out. Chain link won't keep out varmints like mink, snakes, rats and so forth, and until they get quite a bit bigger, it may not keep your babies in.

Are you providing some kind of heat source for your little ones? Checking their bottoms daily for pasty butt?

Any questions, just ask! Someone will jump in with answers to help you out.

Hello James, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Can you post a picture of the gap? Most hair can be secured using 1/2" hardware cloth.
I am paralyzed in a wheelchair. I was hoping for some kind of caulking safe for chickens so a staple gun is next purchase. And more of that cloth.
