Hi All, does anyone know where I might be able to buy pine shavings in the Vassar/Reese/Frankenmuth or 15 mile radius of those towns? I've been buying from the hardware store and its kind of pricey for a small bag, I'd like to buy bigger quantities if possible.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Anywhere people raise horses there are feed stores that carry pine stall shavings by the bale and they are WAAAY less costly than from hardware or pet stores. They're also a more appropriate size shaving for chicken bedding.

Contact any stable and they'll give you their source.

It hadn't crossed my mind either until the feed store recommended ground corn cobs for bedding and they were so expensive, I asked what else they had and they had small bales of hamster shavings and large bales of horse shavings.
I've been using them many years.

I second the feed store if you can find one local, sadly my local feed store sells out of their trailer full usually within a day or two so most of the time when I go there they are out of stock... But, one of the local Menards by me sells big bags of pine horse shavings for about 50 cents more a bag than the feed store so that has become my fallback, sadly they only keep about 3 bags in stock though so you can't exactly stock up...
