trying to vent sex... how to hold a bird?

So I read through the sticky....and tried to see on a couple of my browns (who I know already 'cos their feathers tell me so) and I had real trouble. How do you hold a quail still? As soon as I tried to flip them over to see what was what I was being scratched by those claws and the back legs were kicking like crazy! I have 12 birds I need to vent check and I couldn't get at good look at all. They are 4 weeks old and pretty happy right now, but I'm pretty sure I've got too many roos unless all my others are hens, and then theres gonna be trouble. What's the trick to holding them still so you can get a look?
