TSC "Chicken Hutch"

Does anyone have this that is available at TSC for $99.00 and made of exterior grade plywood with a waterproof roof? What is your rating of it????? Just curious before I go buy one.

unless you are using it for chicks it is way too small. the poor birds won't be able to scavenge for food in the grass or roam around. you are better off making your own.

I've got a couple that I use as brooders in the summer ...they are not very heavy duty and not nearly big enough for LF birds.

It is just the rabbit hutvh they sell with a big roost across the middle. By 4-6 weeks any chicken you have will be too tall to sit on the roost. It is cute though

I bought the rabbit hutch of the same brand a few years ago, it is falling apart and I have had to keep in under some kind of roof, it is not very waterproof. I agree, save your money. It would work okay for tiny baby chicks, as long as it was in your garage or coop, but homemade will last so much longer, even if you are not very skilled with wood. HenZ

Depends entirely on what u want to use it for. We needed a way to secure our babies after losing 3 to a coon and figured $99 was less than the time and money we'd spend building something. We love it! It was very easy to put together and serves the purpose perfectly. The littles were too young to put in the big girl coop and we knew we had to get them outside and out of the steel water trough they were living in, so we built a separate yard on the side of the big girls house and made it where we could connect them, giving everyone access to both yards, when the time was right. The littles couldn't figure out how to roost right away and bedded down in a corner of the yard where they were attacked. Also, the roost in ours is adjustable and they are using it just fine, no problems at all.
