So they got me yet again.. TSC had a bin labeled with Blue Plymouth Rocks and also Sapphire Gems. I see a lot of questions to whether or not they’re the same… From what I understand, a Sapphire Gem is the result of a BluePR + a BarredPR. But some people say they’re the same just called different things..

If they are in fact different, which I think they might be given the different appearance as chicks….can anyone say for sure which is which?

Those look about right as far as label goes. I'm no expert at the technicalities of the breeds, but I would say that's your typical production blue. (Sapphire Gem/ Blue rock) however I haven't heard the term Blue Rock yet.

Please pardon me, I don't think I read the thread very clearly at first. Firstly, I don't know why they would put two blue (very similar) breeds together in a bin. So much room for confusion there. I don't think I'm wise enough to help tell the difference between the two. BUT I've bought Sapphires before and they look like the left (lighter) one.

Blue Plymouth rocks are rocks crossed with blue andulusian I believe.
Saphire gems are a sexlink between a blue Rock and a barred plymouth Rock.

Basically the same thing, one just has a bit more rock.
Thanks! Do you know which chick is which? I’ve googled them but I get different results because some people say they’re the same ‘breed’

Following this with interest as I also picked up two blue chicks (as well as two "Mystic Marans") at TSC last week. The employee told me they were Olive Eggers but they sure don't look like any OE I've ever seen, they look exactly like the OP's chicks (one light and one dark, even).
I assumed they would be mystery chicks since I got them at TSC, the main goal was to have some blue in the flock.

I got 4 sapphire gems from TSC too but the didn’t look nothing like that. Here is some picswfrom right after we first got the around 6-7 weeks ago. One of sapphire gems or Amaracaunas ended up being a cockerel when I was told all was pullets. That was a nice surprise because I wanted one rooster. I’ve posted two pics of them from when we first got them. Your lil chick is cute. Why do they have to grow so fast? 😕
