I feed medicated when my chicks start to go outside. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy 50 lbs of medicated right off the bat. Depends on how many chicks you have, your local weather, when they are moving outside, etc. Some people have had Marek's in their flocks and so only buy vaccinated chicks to hopefully prevent transmission. From what I've read its not a guarantee but it can help. Wild birds can transmit it as well so, again, it depends on your situation whether or not vaccinated chicks are necessary in your circumstances. And that's pretty much how all things chicken go-you have to do what works for you and a lot of times you might have to figure that out just from keeping chickens. You will make mistakes so go easy on yourself. Do your best, do your research and reassess as you go. Sounds like you're doing just fine!
